Town Leaders in Terry Unveiled New Security Cameras

TERRY, Miss. (WLBT) – Town leaders in Terry unveiled new security cameras Tuesday morning to help prevent and deter crime in the area.

The unveiling ceremony was held at Terry’s City Hall, where town leaders announced that it was the first of its kind in the town and, in fact, the state.

However, it’s not just an ordinary security camera.

The crime-fighting tool has all sorts of cool features that can help identify anyone caught indulging in criminal activity more easily.

Residents and town leaders were raving about the new preventive crime measure.

“We do hope it will keep criminals out and protect citizens in the area,” said Gabriela Rutledge, a Terry resident.

Police Chief Anthony Moore said, “That flashing blue light keeps the criminal elements away.”

Tuesday, Chief Moore joined other leaders at Terry City Hall.

He tells us, the new cameras are solar powered.

“It makes our citizens feel safe. It makes the community feel safe, and it makes our business owners feel safe as well,” the chief said.

The cameras were purchased through a company named Eagle Eye Networks Security System.

It gives law enforcement a bird’s eye view of all activities in hotspots in the city where crime is more prevalent.

“They have so many capabilities,” Chief Moore said. “Of course, I can use my cell phone and be able to look at them as well. It’s got all types of zoom capabilities and being able to read everything”

The cameras are also able to capture license plates numbers, capture video inside vehicles and capture audio.

As of now, there are three of these unique cameras placed throughout the town.

Those who live in the town say they feel safe with the new implementations to help prevent crime.

“I’m very excited about these new cameras,” Anna Rutledge expressed. “I just hope that it helps prevent a lot of crime in the future and catch any theft or anything going on. They will be able to catch cars and people.”

Gabriela Rutledge says she’s encountered known criminals in the area recently.

She’s now hoping for even more cameras to help capture criminals in the act where she lives.

“We have a lady who walks on 51 often and gets in people’s mailboxes, and so I’m hoping we can get more outside of downtown and in more of the rural areas,” Gabriela Rutledge said.

Chief Moore says the city plans to purchase more cameras soon and place them in different areas of the town.
