Security cameras installed in North Jackson

JANS – Following a $50,000 state appropriation from the Mississippi Legislature sought through a local project request by Representative Justis Gibbs (D-Jackson), six neighborhood cameras are now fully operational in the North Jackson portion of District 72.

Installation was completed by the Hinds County Board of Supervisors just in time for the holidays and North Jackson residents are elated to know there is an extra layer of security in their neighborhoods before Christmas. “We thank Rep. Gibbs for listening to our concerns. Many of us receive packages on our front doorstep while we are away from home. It is a great thing to know we will have a way of tracking vehicles who are coming in and out of our neighborhood if we have problems.” says Marliyn McGowan, President of the Woodhaven Homeowners Association.

Rep. Gibbs worked to secure this appropriation from the legislature after continued concerns of safety and security from homeowner associations in North Jackson. Rep. Gibbs credits Hinds County Supervisor Robert Graham for collaborating with him to ensure this project came to fruition. “Supervisor Graham and Fredrick Wilson of Wilson Technology, Inc. have been instrumental in bringing this project to life. We hope to collaborate in the future to expand the security footprint in neighborhoods that need it in District 72,” says Rep. Gibbs.

The new surveillance cameras now belong to Hinds County and are intended to provide safety to local neighborhoods while also equipping law enforcement with additional tools to deter crime.

The six cameras are located at entrances of six neighborhoods, which are Woodlea, Woodhaven, Lakeover, Richwood III, Pine Ridge, and Norwood I. A seventh camera will be installed in the next few weeks that will add service to Valley North Homeowners Association. This new solar surveillance program will affect approximately 15,000 Jacksonians.
